People all over the world are realizing the need for the conservation of natural resources that are being used for the sake of creating spaces that involve use of materials that are energy intensive and are expensive.
Green Building Architecture is all about a building’s entire life cycle from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and deconstruction. People are now concerned about factors such as economy, utility, durability, and comfort. The practice of Green and Sustainable design is growing throughout the world making people concerned about various issues regarding building design and have achieved quite a lot of success.
Every country in the world has their own traditional architectural styles. Traditional architectural styles involve the use of materials that are locally available and are available in abundance. But lately, after the industrial revolution and creation of energy intensive materials, the mindsets of people have changed drastically. They crave for more of fancy designs that involve the use of materials that are not available locally but are imported from different cities of the country or altogether different nations of the world. This style is called “Contemporary or Modern Design.”
This became like the status symbol for the rich. Like people would say, “This is the best Italian marble available in the Italian market, Malaysian Wood furniture, maple wood flooring from America” etc. This is something that people should stop practicing.
The problem with these kind of practices is that people don’t realize how much energy is being utilized for their transportation and the amount they are spending to get it done. Instead, they could go for materials that are available in their own city instead of spending a huge amount on importing it from other places.
Many Architects are taking up the practice of Green Architecture and are presenting various designs and solutions that could help our environment remain green and sustainable to the people.
Many people don’t agree with the concept of green and sustainability because everyone wants to create or have a space that is different and unique in its style whereas the Green Architecture enforces on the idea of Traditonalism in materials as well as design.
“Dynamic Tower is a new Green Building Project that is bringing awareness among people and will bring a revolution in the field of Green Architecture.”
Architect Grovar says, “the greed is at the vortex of a self-destructive whirlpool of commercial excess set to devour all natural resources and die-hard activism is not a solution to the greed garbed under a more acceptable name of consumerism.”
The Architect who is practicing the concept of Green Architecture must strive on achieving the following goals that would make the environment sustainable and green.
- Energy Efficiency
- Water Efficiency
- Materials Efficiency
- Indoor environmental quality enhancement
- Operations and Maintenance Optimization
- Waste reduction
- Reduction in the cost
If these goals are achieved, we will be much closer towards achieving and creating a green and Sustainable environment.
