Green Roofing Technology | Eco-friendly Roofs

A green roof is partially or completely covered with vegetation and a growing medium, planted over a waterproofing membrane.

Green roofs usually do not involve construction of complex drainage and irrigation systems. The use of “green” refers to the growing trend of environmentally friendly and does not refer to roofs which are merely colored green, as with green roof tiles or roof shingles.

There are different ways in which green roofs are constructed. Container gardens on roofs is one of the type of green roof, where plants are maintained in pots, are not generally considered to be true green roofs, although this is an area of debate. Rooftop ponds are another form of green roofs which are used to treat greywater.

English Gardens | Legendary Gardening Style

The English garden or English landscape park is a style of landscape garden which emerged in England in the early 18th century, and spread across Europe, replacing the more formal, symmetrical Spanish Gardening Style of the 17th century as the principal gardening style of Europe.

English Gardening Style developed after the development of Persian Gardening Style and Italian Gardening Style. All these gardening styles were the result of the influence of the Modern Landscape Architecture.

The English gardens presented an idealized view of nature and they were designed by gaining the inspiration from the landscape paintings made by Claude Lorraine and Nicolas Poussin.

It usually included a lake, sweeps of gently rolling lawns set against groves of trees, and recreations of classical temples, Gothic ruins, bridges, and other picturesque architecture, designed to recreate an idyllic pastoral landscape. By the end of the eighteenth century the English garden was being imitated by the French Gardening Style.

Le Corbuier was an architect, painter and a philosopher. He became a powerful thinker of new urban theories and propounded a bold, modern architecture.

In 1951, he was appointed Architectural Adviser to the Punjab government for designing the new capital city, Chandigarh. This city represents the expression of his revolutionary ideas and is where his greatest monuments have been erected.

Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright became the pioneers of Modern Architecture….

He lived his austere life and admired the simple and the useful. He was not only an architect and a planner but a painter, a sculptor, in secret a poet, a visionary whose view encompassed all that concerns man. Above all, Corbusier was a great humanist whose primary preoccupation was the welfare of man. He worked in India for a pittance and did not die a rich man.

Introduction

Chandigarh rock garden is an epitome of creativity and innovation. Rock Garden is a sculpture garden in Chandigarh, India, also known as Nek Chand’s Rock Garden. The speciality of this place is that it is completely built of industrial & home waste and thrown-away items.

Rock garden has been established in the form of an open-air exhibition hall.

Timeline

The Rock Garden was secretly started by Mr Nek Chand in 1957. The government only learnt about it in 1975. After it was discovered, the government took it over.
